Arbit - next generation project tracking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :Author: Arne Nordmann :Date: Tue, 21 Oct 2008 22:36:17 +0200 :Revision: 4 :Copyright: CC by-sa ==================== First arbit release! ==================== :Description: This is the first release of arbit - in version 0.0.722-dev. Read further for details... This is the `first release of arbit - in version 0.0.722-dev`__. This release is intended as a development snapshot and is released mainly for two reasons: 1) Give you an overview what we are currently working on. 2) Inspire developers to provide help in developing modules for arbit. It is not intended as a fool proof release, which can be used in production. We did not even declare it alpha. Additionally arbit currently has two major dependencies on software, which only has been released in alpha state yet: `PHP 5.3`__ and `CouchDB 0.8.1`__. __ http://arbitracker.org/download.html __ http://snaps.php.net/ __ http://couchdb.org/ What arbit can do ================= Arbit aims to provide a decent modern project tracking tool, which includes issue tracking, wikis and related tasks. Take a look at the `original roadmap document`__ in the wiki to see what we are trying to accomplish. Arbit already includes: - An issue tracker A yet relatively simple issue tracker with very basic reporting functionalities. It already works and is used for arbit itself. - A wiki A basic RST__ based wiki, which might also work with common wiki markup languages some time in the future. - A FAQ management system Users can ask questions, which then are answered by developers or other users - some kind of an example module. - Notification management Inter module communication in arbit depends a lot on a signal-slot mechanism - most of the signals can also be sent by mail so you can get informed automatically about nearly everything what happens on your project. __ http://tracker.arbitracker.org/arbit/development_wiki/view/Roadmap __ http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/ref/rst/restructuredtext.html What arbit cannot do yet ======================== A lot. And a lot of things we want arbit to do in future. You can take a look at the `live roadmap`__ to estimate what will be implemented in the near future. We are especially discussing the design of the `VCS integration`__ in arbit at the moment. The wiki document tells you about the current state. We want the VCS integration to be the major part of the 0.2 release. The original roadmap also defines what we want to be integrated into arbit until we reach version 1.0. If you want some different feature, you are very welcome to help us developing arbit. __ http://tracker.arbitracker.org/arbit/issue_tracker/roadmap __ http://tracker.arbitracker.org/arbit/development_wiki/view/VCSModuleDesign Learn more ========== You can learn more about arbit on this website. There are `screen shots`__, a short guide on participating__ and, of course, a link to the `project tracker`__ with wikis containing more information. __ http://arbitracker.org/about.html __ http://arbitracker.org/participate.html __ http://tracker.arbitracker.org/dashboard Trackbacks ========== Comments ========
